This morning, I went to Rice Reservation & Lyman Pond in Westwood with urbpan and a couple others on another Urban Nature Walk. We met behind the high school, and after rambling about in the woods and stumbling upon a pair of snapping turtles laying their eggs, we finally found our way to the pond where there was a great blue heron rookery. Today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. It was the perfect day to go on an Urban Nature walk, led by urbpan. I had suggested we go to the Blue Hills Reservation at Great Blue Hill, a place I used to go all the time when I lived near there. I went on another Urban Nature Walk with urbpan and several others at Cutler Park Reservation in Needham this morning. I used to live not far from this place, and passed it by many times but had never been into it. Cutler is a marsh on the Charles River, and there is a boardwalk running through the wettest parts.
